Date of Publication:   12/15/2025
Abstract:

If we see the origins of language are shrouded in mystery. Many theories have been
proposed, no one knows for sure how language developed. Some scientists believe that
language evolved as a way for early humans to coordinate their actions during hunts and
other group activities. Others suggest that language developed as a way for humans to
express their emotions and communicate their thoughts.
While spoken language has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, written
language is a relatively recent development. The first known form of written language was
cuneiform, which was developed by the Sumerians in ancient Mesopotamia around 3500
BCE. Over the centuries, various writing systems developed around the world, including
hieroglyphics in Egypt, the Chinese script, and the alphabet used by the Greeks and Romans.
